In the U.S. they're called Aqua Dots.
In Australia, they're called Bindeez.
Two children in the U.S. and three in Australia had to be hospitalized because of the product.
The beads are sold in general merchandise stores and over the Internet for use in arts and crafts projects.
Scientists say a chemical coating on the beads, when ingested, metabolizes into the so-called date rape drug GHB.
When eaten, the compound can induce unconsciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death.
About 4.2 million units of the toy are included in the recall.
They were sold nationwide from April through November for $17 to $30.
Consumers who purchased them should take them away from children immediately and contact the distributor for free replacement beads or toys of equal value.
