Officials of the American Federal of Government Employees union say a training session led by former Bush campaign volunteer Ken Cordier violated a ban on political activities in federal workplaces.
Cordier is a retired Air Force colonel and former POW who has been linked to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the anti-Kerry group now known as the Swift Vets and Pows for Truth.
The employees’ union has endorsed Sen. John Kerry for president.
"Employees at the Waco facility were coerced into attending the session and felt intimidated by the politically inflammatory comments made by the presenter," said AFGE general counsel, Mark Roth.
"The Hatch Act clearly prohibits this sort of forced indoctrination of federal employees,” he said.
The Office of Special Counsel has been asked to investigate.
VA Regional Office officials declined comment, but a VA spokeswoman said Cordier's presentation was about his POW experiences and didn't violate any laws.
Cordier says his statements in Waco were "historical, not
political."
