Texas Prepares To Carry Out Second Execution Of The Week

Texas death row inmate Frederick McWilliams, 30, is scheduled to die just after 6 p.m. Wednesday for the shooting death of a Houston man during a carjacking in 1996.

McWilliams was on probation for armed robbery at the time of the killing.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to review the case earlier this year and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles has rejected McWilliams’ clemency request and motion for a stay.

McWilliams says he didn’t expect to reach 30.

The ex-warehouse worker says he lived recklessly on the streets of Houston and that if not for his arrest, he would have been dead at 25.

McWilliams’ execution would be the 22nd this year in Texas and the second this week.

Demarco McCullum, 30, was executed Tuesday night for the 1994 abduction, beating and shooting of a 29-year-old Houston man.

Two more executions are scheduled next week.
