Gridlock Fix: Remote Controlled Planes?

The Federal Aviation Administration plans to test two pilot programs in Houston and Miami that use remote-controlled aircrafts.

The unmanned aircraft will help police spot traffic hazards and assist in search and rescue operations.

During the testing period both departments will help the FAA develop flight guidelines and training needs for using such aircraft in urban areas.

Houston police will use aircraft provided by Insitu Inc of Bingen, Washington, at no cost to the department.

The aircraft can cost from several thousand dollars to more than a million depending on complexity and capabilities.
