(November 26, 2007)--It's been more than one year since the death of former Texas Governor Ann Richards.
Her grave at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin has no permanent marker.
Visitors to the burial site see a temporary stone bearing the Richards name.
The more than two-foot-high marker was erected because people had trouble finding the spot without the help of cemetery officials.
Cemetery Superintendent Harry Bradley says the permanent stone has been selected by her family and approved by him and it's coming.
Bradley says the Richards gravestone isn't a standard type so ordering it takes time.
A Richards family spokeswoman didn't immediately return calls from The Associated Press.
Democrat Richards led the state from 1991-95.
She died on Sept. 13, 2006, of esophageal cancer.
Richards was 73.
She was born in Waco and graduated from Baylor University before moving to Austin, where her involvement in Democratic Party politics eventually led her to seek public office.
