The thousands who lined the route of the inauguration parade Thursday in Washington, D.C. saw plenty of Texas, although organizers worked hard to try to include all 50 states in the lengthy procession.

They also got a look at the President’s new Cadillac limousine—a 2006 model—although President Bush and the First Lady delighted spectators by walking the final block of the parade route.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee placed the Texas Longhorn Band near the front of Thursday’s inaugural parade in Washington, D.C., and soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division’s Horse Cavalry Detachment were assigned to bring up the rear.

UT band members marched with heavy hearts, though, after the death of a 23-year old trombonist who as pronounced dead Wednesday at a Washington, D.C. hospital after a bus driver found him in his still in his seat after other band members had gone to eat.

The 26 members of the Crawford High School band and their 10 sponsors boarded a bus Tuesday afternoon for a trip to Austin to board a flight to Washington, D.C.

The band got a boost over the weekend from resident rocker Ted Nugent who put on a benefit concert in the Crawford High School gym to help raise money to cover the $48,000 it’s expected to cost to send the musicians and ten sponsors to the capital.

The small high school in the President’s adopted hometown was represented in the inaugural parade in 2001 when the Crawford band played along the parade route and boy scouts from Crawford rode on a float.

The Texas A&M University Fightin’ Aggie Band and A&M’s Ross Volunteers also marched in the parade.

The Aggie band is the largest precision military marching band in the country, A&M said.

The Ross Volunteers Company is the oldest student organization in Texas.

The President’s new 2006 Cadillac DTS limo will make its debut Thursday during the parade.

The handcrafted limousine is longer, wider and taller than the production model, but GM officials say it takes its styling cues from the coming mass-produced Cadillac.
