12-Year-Old Texas Boy Accidentally Kills Younger Brother

HOCKLEY (July 31, 2012)--Prosecutors will consider whether anyone will be charged after a 12-year-old Houston-area boy shot and killed his younger brother, although Waller County authorities say the death of the 11-year-old appears to have been as an accident.

Sheriff Glenn Smith said Monday that the victim and his older brother were evidently not supervised while they played with a shotgun.

Officials believe the parents were at work when the boys found the weapon in a closet at their home in Hockley.

Smith says the older boy phoned his mother after Sunday's shooting.

She rushed home and called for help.

Authorities say the boy was taken to Tomball Regional Medical Center, where he died.

His older brother was questioned and later released to his parents.
