Two soldiers who were charged in the death of an Iraqi translator were sentenced Saturday by a court-martial judge in Baghdad.

Spc. Charley L. Hooser was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and making a false statement to investigators. He was sentenced to three years in prison, a reduction in rank and a bad conduct discharge.

Hooser is assigned to the division’s Headquarters Company, 1-9 Cavalry Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

An involuntary manslaughter charge was dismissed in against Spc. Rami Dajani, who pleaded guilty to making a false statement and one count of accessory-after-the-fact involuntary manslaughter.

He was sentenced to 18 months confinement, reduction and rank and a bad conduct discharge.

Dajani is assigned to the division’s Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

The charges stemmed from the Nov. 24 shooting death of an Iraqi interpreter.

Prosecutors said Hooser shot the woman in the head and later denied involvement in the death.

They said Dajani supplied the gun used to kill the translator.

Both soldiers chose trial by judge, rather than jury.
