Central Texas Schools Make Texas Monthly’s Best List
Texas Monthly’s 2007 list of the best schools in the state includes campuses in Waco, Temple, Killeen and Copperas Cove.

(December 3, 2007)—Campuses in Waco, Temple, Killeen and Copperas Cove are included on Texas Monthly magazine’s 2007 list of the best 859 schools in the state.
The magazine published its fourth list of the best schools in the state in its current edition.
It’s the second year Texas Monthly has ranked the schools based on the number of subjects in which they excel.

The Killeen ISD is the best represented Central Texas district on this year’s list, which includes Cedar Valley, Clifton Park, Harker Heights, Montague Village, Nolanville and Reeces Creek Elementary Schools; Audie Murphy and Smith Middle Schools, and Ellison High School.
The Temple School District’s Western Hills Elementary and Bonham Middle Schools made the list.
In Copperas Cove, Mae Stevens Elementary School was recognized.
Waco’s Mountainview and Parkdale Elementary Schools made the list.
In the Midway School District, Hewitt, South Bosque, Speegleville and Woodway Elementary Schools were recognized.
The rankings are based on an analysis by the National Center for Educational Accountability, which reviewed three years worth of student test results to come up with the list of higher performing schools.
