(December 4, 2007)--A media watchdog group says there are 10 video games that should not be given to or bought by kids or teens under 17.

The National Institute on Media and the Family's annual video game report card warns about graphic scenes of gunshot victims spurting blood and a man urinating into a prisoner's cell.

The games the group advises parents not to buy for children and teens under 17 includes the M-rated Assassin’s Creed, Call to Duty 4, Conan, The Darkness, Jericho, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Manhunt 2, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Stranglehold and Time Shift.

The institute says efforts to protect children from the dangers posed by violent video games haven't kept pace with the growth of the video game industry.

But the Entertainment Software Rating Board, which assigns game ratings, is defending its effectiveness.

President Patricia Vance says a recent Federal Trade Commission report called the rating system useful and informative for parents.
