Virgin Mary On Grilled Cheese Sandwich Sells on eBay

The online casino, GoldenPalace.com, bid $28,000 to purchase a 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich that supposedly bears the image of the Virgin Mary.

A spokesman for the casino told The Miami Herald that the
sandwich is "a part of pop culture" and that the casino "knew
right away" that it wanted to purchase it.

E-Bay pulled the grilled cheese image of the Virgin Mary from its Web site, but reversed its decision and put the partially eaten sandwich back on the auction block.

Bids reached nearly $100,000 within hours after the sandwich was re-listed, but obviously not all were legitimate.

Sandwich owner Diana Duyser says she spotted the image after she'd taken a bite out of the sandwich and saw the face staring back at her.

When she first listed the sandwich on eBay, it drew bids of as much as $22,000.

The page was viewed almost 100,000 times before it was taken down and a million times or more after the sandwich was re-listed.
