Soldier Loses Leg, Wife Enlists To Take His Place
The wife of a U.S. soldier who lost his leg in an explosion in Iraq is joining the Army to take her husband’s place.

(December 9, 2007)--It's been more than a year since infantryman Alejandro Albarran lost part of his right leg to a blast in Iraq.
He still hasn't decided whether he'll stay in the Army.
Whatever he does, the 20-year-old Army specialist won't be leaving life behind because his wife Janay Albarran has enlisted to take his place among the ranks.
While he underwent five-day-a-week rehab to recover his balance and strength on a prosthetic leg at an Army rehabilitation facility in San Antonio, she learned to shoot a rifle and stand in formation in boot camp at Fort Jackson, S.C.
Janay became a private on Friday.
The couple's 2-year-old daughter is staying with a grandmother in Arizona.
Across the Army, roughly 24,000 soldiers -- roughly nine percent of the force -- are married to other soldiers.
There are no statistics on how many join after a spouse or family member is badly wounded in combat.

I think that this story is awesome. I know so many people in the armed forces, whether they are army, navy or marine. I would also do the same thing this young women is doing. My dad is about to retire after 20 yrs, and my boyfriend, kenny will be swore in as of tonight. I plan on joining the army, and I think that any able person should do the same. Our freedom is what we're fighting for, whether you are for the war or against it. I appreciate all the troops at home and far away. Thank you for what you do!!!GOD SPEED, AND COME HOME SAFE!!!
