(December 16, 2007)--A snowplow driver for the Illinois Department of Transportation is being hailed as a hero for pulling a suburban Chicago woman out of her burning car, even though she didn't realize she needed rescuing.
Authorities say Demetrius Duplessis was determined to get the woman out of the burning car.
Twenty-two-year-old Khushboo Jani was on her way from Schaumburg, Ill. to a final exam at Roosevelt University in downtown Chicago.
She knew her car had broken down, but did not realize that its engine had caught fire.
She says she was talking to her father on a cell phone and didn't see the smoke or flames.
Jani says she didn't know what to think when a man suddenly tried to grab her.
But before she could lock the doors, the snowplow driver had reached in and pulled her out.
