(December 30, 2007)--A Bosque County youth was killed Saturday in an auto accident near Evant.
Reports indicate the 14-year-old was riding on an automobile hood being pulled behind a pick up truck when the truck swerved and the hood struck a large cedar tree, according to Coryell County Justice of the Peace Jimmy Wood.
The youth’s father, according to statements from witnesses, was driving the truck. Names so far have been withheld due to the boy’s age.
Two other teenagers – said to be friends of the victim – were riding inside the truck, witnesses said.
Wood said the youth was staying with his father over the Christmas holiday. The boy lived with his mother in Valley Mills, Wood said.
First responders administered Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation at the scene but were unable to revive the boy. Authorities at the scene reported the youth sustained severe injuries to his head and chest.
The accident happened on a private ranch about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, some 4 miles east of Evant, just off U.S. Highway 84.
Coryell County Sheriff’s Deputies, Gatesville, Evant and Levita fire units and Coryell Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Medical Service were dispatched to the scene.
Wood pronounced the youth dead at the scene about an hour after the initial report was made. Wood ordered the teenager’s body sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas for an autopsy.
A news release issued Sunday by the sheriff’s office states the incident remains under investigation but all indications are the death was accidental.
