(January 3, 2008)--El Paso County authorities say a Mexican man wanted in the 1999 killing of his pregnant common-law wife was returned to Texas Thursday.

Lorenzo Lechuga was arrested by Mexican federal authorities in February in Torreon and had been held in Mexico City.

He was indicted on a charge of murder about three months after the February 1999 killing of 18-year-old Veronica Guillen.

Prosecutors say they're not sure if Lechuga has hired a private attorney.

Investigators say Lechuga killed Guillen by pushing an unknown object on her neck while the couple was at a friend's house in El Paso.

Guillen was eight and a-half months pregnant at the time.
