WALNUT SPRINGS (November 16, 2011)—Fires broke out early Wednesday morning in five buildings in the small Bosque County town of Walnut Springs, destroying four houses and a business.

All of the structures that burned were unoccupied and some of them derelict, according to Bosque County Chief Deputy Robert Flood.

There were no reports of injuries to residents or firefighters, Flood said.

“We’ve got out deputies there canvassing the entire town and trying to find any individuals who might have seen what happened,” Flood said.

Flood said one of the buildings that burned was along State Highway 144, the main road through town, and some were more than 100 years old.

Every fire department in Bosque County and some from neighboring Sommervell County responded to the scene, Flood said.

The first call came in at around 2 a.m. Wednesday and a spokesman for the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office said some fire crews were still dousing flames more than three hours later.

Walnut Springs is a town of about 800 residents about 50 miles north of Waco.
