(January 10, 2008)--Friends and family gathered Thursday in Tyler to pay their respects to a 21-year-old woman who was the victim of a brutal murder.

A memorial service was held for Jana Shearer, who was killed and mutilated last week.

Shearer's boyfriend, 25-year-old Christopher McCuin, is charged with capital murder in the death and dismemberment.

Police arrested McCuin after they say they found her body, an ear boiling in a pot, and a hunk of flesh with a fork in it on a plate at the crime scene.

McCuin's call to 9-1-1 alerted authorities and led them to believe he intended to eat his girlfriend's remains.

Search and arrest affidavits have since been sealed by a judge and a gag order issued in the case.

Shearer’s MySpace page was filled with tributes and expressions of condolence Thursday.
