Good morning, it’s Monday January 14 and after a cool start, it should be a comfortable day. Today marks a milestone for a Grammy-winning, Texas-reared singer-songwriter-producer.

Sixty years ago today, legendary Texas-reared singer-songwriter-producer T-Bone Burnett was born Joseph Henry Burnett in St. Louis, Mo. He grew up in Fort Worth and went on to create his own work and produce such artists as Tony Bennett and k.d. lang and The Wallflowers. He won a Grammy Award for the soundtrack for the move “O’ Brother, Where Art Thou?” and was nominated for an Oscar for his contribution to the film, “Cold Mountain.”

Whitewater prosecutors questioned Hillary Rodham Clinton at the White House for ten minutes about the gathering of FBI background files on past Republican political appointees. (Sources quoted the first lady as saying she knew nothing about any such collection of files.) NBC agreed to pay Warner Bros. $13 million per episode to retain the highly-rated TV show "ER."

Five years ago:
Kmart Corporation announced its biggest round of cutbacks yet, saying it would close 326 more stores and eliminate 37,000 more jobs in hopes of getting out of bankruptcy by the end of April 2003. (Kmart emerged from Chapter 11 protection in May 2003.) Thousands of General Electric Company employees across the country began a two-day strike to protest higher health insurance costs.

One year ago:
President Bush, facing opposition from both parties over his plan to send more troops to Iraq, said on CBS' "60 Minutes" that he had the authority to act no matter what Congress wanted. On "Fox News Sunday," Vice President Dick Cheney asserted that lawmakers' criticism would not influence Bush's plans and he dismissed any effort to "run a war by committee." Actress
Darlene Conley, feisty fashion mogul Sally Spectra on "The Bold and the Beautiful," died in Los Angeles at age 72.
