Central Texas Man Pleads Guilty In Toddler’s Death
A Central Texas man pleaded guilty Monday to murder in the death of a toddler, whose mother is awaiting trial later this month on a related charge.

(Jan. 14, 2008) A Copperas Cove man pleaded guilty to murder in Gatesville district court on Monday morning just as a jury was being seated in his capital murder trial for the March 2007 death of a toddler.
Antoine Marshon Shields, 28, was accused of the March 24, 2007 murder of Keynen Jacobe Vanhardenberg Wade by "striking, or causing (the child) to strike an unknown object or surface, according to the indictment against him.
Shields also pleaded guilty to injury to a child.
He must serve 30 years in prison before he's eligible for parole.
Prosecutors were not seeking the death penalty, but he would have faced a life term without parole had he been convicted of capital murder.
Shields and Tashawna Vanhardenburg were arrested after their 35-month-old son died in a local hospital.
Vanhardenberg is charged with injury to a child for her part in not seeking immediate medical attention for her son and for not attempting to prevent the injuries the child sustained, according to an indictment.
Her trial is to begin on Jan 22, Vanhardenberg's attorney told News 10.
