(January 14, 2008)—The crash happened shortly after 5pm at the intersection of Aviation Dr and Hwy 84, just outside of Bellmead.

A Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling east on Hwy 84 when it struck the back of a Semi-Tractor Dump-Trailer.

The posted speed limit at the intersection was 70mph; DPS on the scene reported that the Cavalier had failed control its speed.

The driver of the Cavalier, 28-year-old Teara Hagood, of Hubbard, was pronounced dead at the scene then later taken to Waco Mortuary, where next-of-kin could be notified.

The rig had been stopped at the intersection, waiting for a red signal light to change.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, William Master, of Coolidge, was not injured.

No other passengers were reported to have been in either of the vehicles.

Hagood was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

The report was filed by Arturo Perez of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

While this is a horrible thing that happened, i don't think it's all the light's fault. let's also not forget the fault of drivers as well. You as a driver also have to be extremely vigilant.

The yellow light is too short: it is less than 5 seconds long, and the speed limit is upwards to 70mph. Plus: there is a disconnect between vehicles in the turn lane and onto these roads from the airport/ TSTC and the signal changes.
