WACO (January 26, 2012)—A Dallas man was awaiting transfer back to Waco Thursday after he was arrested by Sherman police on an attempted capital murder warrant issued out of Waco.
Norris Wayne Smith, 39, was being held without bond in the Grayson County Jail pending transfer back to McLennan County, said Capt. Roger Braziel, of the Grayson County Jail.
Smith was named in the warrant in connection with the October 2011 shooting of Jerry Crowder, Jr., 27, who was shot August 6, 2011 during an attempted robbery.
Waco police at the time said Smith, another man and a woman named Delores Dameka Brooks, 30, conspired to rob Crowder when Brooks lured him to an apartment where the other men were waiting.
Brooks was being held Thursday in the McLennan County Jail charged with attempted capital murder and theft of service in lieu of bonds totaling $275,000 according to jail records.
Crowder was shot as he struggled with the two men and was later found by police lying on the sidewalk in front on the apartment building.
Crowder was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
