The day starts cloudy with lows in the 30s, but we should see some sun this afternoon, although highs aren’t expected to rise much above the lower 40s. Overnight there’s at least a slight chance of some freezing rain or light sleet in parts of Central Texas, but no accumulations are expected. Overnight lows, however, will dip into the upper 20s.

Gertrude Janeway, the last known widow of a Union veteran from the Civil War, died in Blaine, Tennessee, at age 93 (she had married John Janeway in 1927 when he was 81 and she was barely 18).

A year after disclosure of a domestic spying program that President Bush maintained was within his authority to operate, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announced the administration had shifted its position and would seek the approval of an independent panel of federal judges. Pulitzer Prize-winning satirist Art Buchwald died in Washington, D.C., at age 81.
