LIMESTONE COUNTY (February 9, 2012)—The 57-year-old Mexia man who evidently drowned after a boating accident Wednesday on Lake Mexia was identified Thursday as Robert Carroll.

A Porter Funeral Home spokesperson confirmed the identity and said a memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Mexia.

Carroll was a Mexia native who graduated from Mexia High School and worked as an engineer for the BNSF Railroad.

Carroll’s body was recovered at around 5 p.m. Wednesday following a search that started after the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office received a call at around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday about the boating accident near the Lake Mexia Marina.

A fisherman told the deputy who responded to the call that he saw a man fall out of a boat and into the water.

The witness was able to stop the boat, but found no trace of the man who fell from it, authorities said.

A dive team was called into after sonar detected what proved to be the missing man’s body.

An autopsy was ordered, authorities said.
