Former Central Texas Prison Guard Charged In Death Of Newborn Save Email Print

A | A | A

(January 22, 2008)--A former prison guard accused of giving birth in a motel bathtub and stuffing the full-term baby in the back tank of the toilet was in the Falls County Jail Tuesday, charged with capital murder.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested 25-year-old Khaliliha Baucom of Lott earlier Tuesday.

Bond was set at $200,000.

She was named in a sealed indictment returned in December by the Falls County Grand Jury.

Baucom was arrested in November on a warrant charging abuse of a corpse, which is a misdemeanor, but authorities said then a capital murder charge could still be filed.

She was free on $2,500 bond on the earlier charge when she was arrested Tuesday.

Police in Marlin say Baucom gave birth by herself in a Marlin motel bathtub in April.

Then she was taken by ambulance to a hospital after she complained of bleeding and stomach pain.

She was airlifted to a Waco hospital for an emergency C-section.

When doctors discovered she had already given birth, they called the police.

Marlin officers found the baby's body in the toilet tank along with the placenta and bloody towels used to clean up the bathtub.

Child Protective Services initially took custody of her three children, but they have since been living with their fathers.

Unfortunately the news does not give the whole story. The mother almost died giving birth to this baby. She had to numerous transfusions to save her life. She doesnt remember what happened and the father was there as well. Maybe he put the baby in the toilet. After all she was airlifted to Waco from another hospital. Like I said she almost died, you don't know the whole story.

You folks are so Godly and pure but let's hope you or your family are never in this situation! There are a lot of innocent folks in prison today. A few were recently released after DNA tests excluded them.

first off, none of us know this person...so how can we be so quick to judge her and say give her the death penalty. we are all humans not GOD. only GOD knows the truth it's up to GOD to decide not you or you. For, it is his will.

This is so sad and sick, I too can't seem to see how a parent-a mother could do this to her own child. She should be given the death penalty, put her head in a toilet, play the baby crying sounds until she drowns..

This is so sad so many Children die every Day at the hands of these sick people, the Mother of this precious Gift is a sick person, who should have never been allowed to get pregnant.I have 6 grandkids who lives with me most of the time, ages 3,6,7,8,and a set of 2yr old twins I would die if something ever happened to any of them I am so thankful that god has blessed me,and allowed me to have a loving Heart.I feel that people that kill any one mainly Innocent Babies should be put some where and have their head cut open and their brain studied,Because something is missing, this world is full of sick people and may God have mercy on us All.

I have two children, 2 and 11 months and these kinds of things are indescriblibly horrific. That being said I don't want anyone to "rot in hell". This all is warned about in the bible, yet no one wants to take heed, at these things, even after all the wake up calls we have been given. I wonder how many people who have expressed disgust over this are still going to vote democratic or not at all. After all they want to make legal the same principle by lifting the partial birth abortion bans. We should repent as a nation and humble ourselves and pray. I don't think many people are going to be able to fare well at judgement day which may be coming upon us rather soon. Shalom

This is one of the most disturbing things I've heard...Anyone who murders anybody much less a defensless child should be given the death penilty...There are so many people in this world that can not have children and then you have these worthless people that put their own flesh and blood into the tank of a toilet...I'm discussed...

When I first read this story I was heart broken, my son just turned one, so I can't imagine just throwing him away like that. People like this need to get punished to the extreme, put her in a room with the sound of a baby, and let her suffer.

Anonymous from Austin has made the up most point!!! I could not agree more... I feel so blessed to have my baby and know those who want children and cannot.... Why.. Can anyone answer why to all of the death from parent to child (especially lately)... May God be with all unfortunate children and rot in Hell horrible parents!!!!

I think any woman that has been investagated by child pretective service should be sterilized. at the governments expense. i would gladly help pay the bill. better then the other.

I work at a state prison, we have to do thourh background checks before we are hired. but one thing they dont do is a psychlogy test, if they did that half the people I work with would not be there. and I do work with some that are dirty bosses, but havent been caught yet.

Posted by: susie Location: kempner on Jan 23, 2008 at 12:56 PM
They need to send her to prison and be sure and let all the inmates know she was a guard and a baby killer.

Posted by: ARW Location: Marlin on Jan 23, 2008 at 12:29 PM
i do not agree with whoever thinks that she has an excuse for what she did. pleading insanity does not make it okay. she was in the right mind to get a job, meet a person and concieve a baby, so she is not crazy! she's just a sad waste of air. How unfortunate for those women who would die to have a child, then someone like this kills one. It's sad. We all need prayer, and only God can help her now, if she even deserves the help of God. Just pray for the ones out there who think behavior like this is normal.

I honestly don't understand some people's mindset. We put together safe places to leave unwanted babies so that these deaths don't have to keep taking place. Babies are precious blessings and I don't get how anyone let alone a mother; a person that carried a child to term could literally throw them away like garbage. Maybe some people don't have that emotional bond with their children before they are born. How anyone can defend that, I will never know.

This all happened a couple of months ago and she is just NOW getting indicted? Go figure....

We have to have a license to drive a car, a background to buy a gun, register to vote...why not be screened before becoming parents.

Posted by: Robie Location: marlin on Jan 23, 2008 at 08:48 AM
I dont know what is going on these days...but one thing i want to say is: There is a thin line between sanity and insanity....so dont be so quick to judge because you dont know what God has in store for you in the future...for someone, especially a mother to do what she did, you have to ask yourself...was she a well person? I thnk not.....

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Belton, TX on Jan 23, 2008 at 08:31 AM
I can't believe this is happening! Woman who WANT babies can't have them and would die to have one and then you have a poor excuse for a mother kill her newborn...there is something so wrong here. It's so sad!

Posted by: Pro-Life Location: Bell Co. on Jan 23, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Wait a minute folkes, think. If she had had an abortion nothing would have been said, the NOW people would put her on a platform and shout about her rights! Instead all she did was a slightly late term abortion right? It's her right, her body. I bet the lawyers will claim post-partum depression too, not her fault is it, it's our evil society's fault.....

Posted by: Sally Location: CenTX on Jan 23, 2008 at 08:02 AM
Why is it that the stupid, ignorant, and undeserving are the one's with the ability to spit babies out like PEZ dispensers?!

Posted by: Cynthia Location: Temple on Jan 23, 2008 at 07:42 AM
This article goes to show that those in law enforcement are not "above the law". This alleged crime is heinous. I hope if she is guilty of taking an innocent baby's life, she gets the death penalty!

Posted by: lilstckadynamite Location: Princeton,KY on Jan 23, 2008 at 02:44 AM
There are thousands of women out there that deserve and want children badly. And there are people like her....a sick, vile creature.

Posted by: Me Location: Central TX on Jan 23, 2008 at 01:19 AM
One less mouth for taxpayers yo feed. "Child Protective Services initially took custody of her three children, but they have since been living with their fathers." Keeping up the multiple father stereotype, I see.
