GATESVILLE (March 6, 2012)-A Gatesville man was injured Tuesday morning when his wheelchair was struck by an 18-wheeler.
Gatesville fire Chief Billy Vaden said the accident happened at about 10:30 near the intersection of Main and 24th streets in Gatesville.
Gatesville police Chief Nathan Gohlke identified the victim as Otis Garner.
Gohlke said the 2001 Kenworth truck was westbound on Main Street and Garner was attempting to cross Main Street in his motorized wheelchair.
Garner was taken by ambulance to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
Initial reports indicated that Garner suffered only bruises and abrasions, but police said later Tuesday he was seriously hurt.
They said his injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Vaden said the bumper of the truck tractor struck the wheelchair and pushed it about 25 feet.
