The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta held out a thin thread of hope Tuesday when it agreed to hear a new motion from the parents of Terri Schiavo, the badly brain damaged woman who has been without water or nutrition since her feeding tube was removed on March 18.

But Wednesday afternoon, the court again declined to intervene in the case.

The appeals court agreed Tuesday to consider a new motion from the Schindlers, who are raising the question of whether a Tampa federal judge should have considered the entire state court record and not just the procedural history in denying the request for an order that the tube be reinserted.

Schiavo is "still fighting," her father said earlier Wednesday afternoon as the fight to save the life of the 41-year-old woman continued on two fronts, but with a sense that not much time remains.

"She is weak from the lack of food and hydration," Bob Schindler said, but "we know that her organs are still functioning."

Meanwhile civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson was reported to be meeting with Florida officials in Tallahassee in hopes of convincing lawmakers to act to try to save the dying woman.

"She could still come out of this thing," Schindler said in a remark directed at state legislators.

Experts said Schiavo could survive for as long as two weeks without water or nutrition, but that window is rapidly closing.
