(January 29, 2008)—A Bosque County town was left without a police force Monday afternoon when the department's last member resigned.

Mayor Jeff Keese of Meridian said Police Chief Scott Martin resigned without explanation Monday afternoon, turning in his badge and a city issued cell phone around 4 p.m.

Martin did submit a letter of resignation, however, that details the reasons why he stepped down.

The City of Meridian usually employs two police officers to man its force. Late last year an officer quit leaving Martin, the chief and remaining officer, to do the job alone.

The Mayor says the City has talked with the Bosque County Sheriff's Office about providing coverage until a solution can be found.

Good for the officers. It's unfair for the officers to work such long hours. Instead of the mayor using cars to his advantage, why don't they hire another officer? Spend funds where funds should be spend.
