Fort Hood Sergeant Indicted In Murder Plot

Updated: Thu 9:57 AM, Apr 14, 2005

Army Sgt. Jason Cline, 27, a Fort Hood soldier who recently returned from Iraq, has been indicted in California for plotting with a woman he met over the Internet to kill her husband, a Navy petty officer.

According to a federal complaint, Cline told investigators he flew to Ontario, Calif. on March 31 to see Sharonmarie Ball for the first time since meeting her on the Internet in 2002.

The complaint alleges the two plotted to kill Ball’s husband, Petty Officer John Ball, who was stabbed in the chin and right hand on April 5.

Ball survived the attack.

Military police arrested Cline a few hours later near the scene of the attack on Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, Calif.

Sharonmarie Ball's attorney says his client had tried to stop the attack on her husband.

Cline's attorney didn't return calls seeking comment.
