WACO (May 17, 2012)—A man and a woman were sentenced to federal prison on Wednesday after they had earlier pleaded guilty to robbing banks in two states, including one in Temple.
Jacob Thomas Norris, 24, was sentenced to serve six years in federal prison on each of two counts but Judge Walter S. Smith ordered those sentenced to be served concurrently.
Smith also sentenced Norris to serve terms of five years and three years on supervised release concurrently after his prison time is discharged, ordered Norris to pay a $2,000 fine, $1,627 in restitution and $200 in special assessment to the court.
Alexia Quentasha Baker, 23, was sentenced to serve 41 months on each of two counts concurrently, five years and three years on supervised release concurrently after her prison time is discharged, ordered Norris to pay a $2,000 fine, $1,627 in restitution and $200 in special assessment to the court.
A third defendant in the case, Jeffrey Brent Heckman, 26, also earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of bank robbery and one count of carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, U.S. Attorney Robert Pitman said.
Prosecutors say the three conspired together to commit a daring daylight robbery of a Temple credit union that investigators said was part of a multi-state spree that started in Missouri.
Heckman admitted to stealing about $33,000 in a series of robberies that started on May 19, 2011 in Hamilton, Mo. and included the July 11, 2011 robbery of the Texell Credit Union in Temple.
Norris admitted he was the getaway driver and Baker admitted she was a lookout during the robber of a bank in Columbia, Mo., and they both admitted they also assisted Heckman when he robbed the credit union in Temple.
The three were arrested on Sept. 5, 2011 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and were deported to the U.S. to face the charges the next day.
