(February 7, 2008)—A Central Texas woman was taken the hospital Thursday morning after the bicycle she was riding was struck by a vehicle.

Hewitt Police were called to the scene of an auto-pedestrian injury accident at the intersection of Sun Valley Road and Russel Lane around 7:30am.

A female in her thirties was riding a bicycle north bound on Russel. According to police, the bicycle was too far out into the intersection at Sun Valley Road and was struck by an east bound Chevrolet Sedan.

The driver of the sedan told police she did not see the bicycle because she was driving into the sun.

The woman on the bicycle was taken by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to a local hospital; her condition and injuries were not known.

An accident is an accident. Unfortunately they do happen. I hope the lady on the bicycle recovers quickly and is alright.

Phil - The car and bike were not running parallel, and the car was not passing the bike. The bike was coming off a side street, and had a stop sign. The front of the bike was too far into traffic that had the right of way. If their positions had been reversed, the car would have needed to yeild to the bike. I do however agree with you on one thing...A vehicle is a vehicle. This was just an unfortunate accident for all involved.
