U.S. Marine Capt. Kelly C. Hinz, 30, of Woodbury, Minn. was identified Thursday as the second of the two pilots who died in what may have been a midair collision Monday between two FA/-18 Hornet jet fighters in Iraq.

Hinz’s body was recovered Wednesday not far from the wreckage of his jet.

The body of the first pilot, Maj. John C. Spahr, 42, of Cherry Hill, N.J., was found Tuesday, still strapped into an ejector seat. He once served as an instructor at the Navy’s famous “Top Gun” school.

The two pilots were assigned to the 323, Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, based at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif

They were operating off of the USS Carl Vinson.
