California Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville denied a defense motion Thursday seeking an acquittal in the child molestation trial of pop singer Michael Jackson.
Melville ruled that prosecution witnesses had demonstrated “a tendency to self destruct on the witness stand.”
"The smoking gun evidence that these witnesses were supposed to present just didn't come through,: Sanger said.
After denying the acquittal request, the judge immediately called in the jury to begin hearing the defense case.
The first defense witness, a 22-year-old dancer, denied that Jackson had ever molested him.
A prosecution witness had testified that she'd seen the man and Jackson showering together years ago, when the dancer was a young boy.
