(February 11, 2008)—The City of Killeen issued a warning late Monday afternoon about an out-of-town company that’s claiming to be testing water on behalf of the city.
“The City of Killeen is not performing water testing and has not contracted any vendor for water testing,” the city said in a press release.
Residents report having been approached by a company representative who claims to need to test their water for contamination, the city said.
The vendors show a badge, perform a test that finds water contamination and then recommend installation of a $5,000 purification system, the city said.
The vendors seem to be targeting newly constructed homes, the city said.
Anyone who is approached by the company representatives is asked to call Killeen’s Public Works Department at (254) 501-7620.

Are these comments really true? There are several company's that test water for impurities the city only actually test for chlorine, and bacteria not any other harmful sediments such as limestone and calcium or total dissolved solids( Things in your water that aren't actually water) It wouldn't be cost effective for the city to provide purified water for the city of Austin. The city provides drinking water that is under 500 PPM( parts per million). It is up to the residant to take the next step in dealing with the unhealthy water problem. Don't get me wrong your water is not harmful on a short term basis but if you do a little more research you'll find cancer causing elements and solvents in your water that fall under the 500PPM law set by the government. and 5700 is actually a good deal similar products run around 10,000. I may not work for Revaluation water so i can't tell you what they do but as a certified water technician myself I can tell you that you should do more research

I just wanted to let you know that I was approached by a large man with a company called Revolution Water of Cedar Park who showed me an official looking badge and told me that they were here on behalf of the Killeen Water Department needing to test my water as the City had identified contaminents that were harmful to my newborn and myself. As a soldiers wife, alone as my husband is in Iraq, I was scared but chose to do my research before spending $5700 with them. Thank you as this confirms my suspicions as I believe the City would have to put an alert to the City occupants of life threatening problems with our water.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR EXPOSING THIS COMPANY FROM THE AUSTIN AREA, HOWEVER I DO HAVE A WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM FROM A LOCAL COMPANY THAT HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 25 YRS AND THEY WERE VERY RESPECTFUL AND DID NOT TRY TO USE SCARE TACTICS WHEN EDUCATING ME ABOUT MY WATER.
