Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston for Rep. Joe Moreno, D-Houston, who died early Friday in a one-vehicle accident near La Grange.
A car procession to Austin will follow the service.
Moreno will be buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
Moreno, 40, was driving from Houston to Austin following the Rockets playoff game with the Dallas Mavericks when authorities think he overcorrected after his pickup truck slipped off the shoulder of State Highway 71.
Rep. Rafael Anchia, D-Dallas, and a legislative staffer were with Moreno and both were hurt.
Moreno's colleagues passed one of his bills in remembrance of him Monday.
"It's just a kick in our gut when things like this happen," said Rep. John Davis, R-Houston, who explained Moreno's bill that would enforce penalties on liquor sellers who provide drinks after legal sales hours.
All present House members stood to signal their approval.
Anchia later gave a brief, tearful speech to the House.
He said the solace he has found since the accident is "the understanding God's plan as no flaws."
Anchia said God's plan for him early Friday morning was to be with his friend, Moreno.
Anchia asked fellow lawmakers to pray for injured legislative staffer Monica Pinon, who was also in the truck.
He thanked the emergency and hospital workers who responded to the accident.
