The Texas Clipper II embarks on its last summer cruise Tuesday in Galveston, with the Texas A&M University at Galveston Martine Corps of Cadets aboard.
The training ship is owned by the Maritime Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation, and will be returned to the government’s ready reserve fleet after the summer voyage.
The ship is scheduled to arrive back in Galveston on July 16.
"Although it is sad to say goodbye to a ship that has become a part of your history and Aggie tradition, we are excited at the possibility of a new training ship in the near future to grow the Maritime Program here in Galveston," said James McCloy, interim superintendent of the Texas Maritime Academy.
