(February 28, 2008)--A high-speed chase through a pair of Texas counties ended in a wreck and a shooting.

It began just after midnight Friday morning when a driver sped off from a traffic stop in Waller County.

Authorities say after crossing into Washington County at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, the car left the road near Routt Road and Riverside Plantation in Chappell Hill, hitting trees and a fence.

When authorities approached the car, they say shots rang out.

The driver was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

As of Friday afternoon, the driver had not been identified, but the car had been involved in a carjacking and armed robbery in Houston, and 28 tablets of MDMA or ecstasy and 34 grams of methamphetamine was found inside, along with other items believed to have been stolen.
