Troops from the 3rd Infantry Division’s Task Force Baghdad carried out a series of early morning raids Monday on suspected terrorist safe houses and arrested 10 suspected insurgents.
U.S. officials think seven of the detainees were involved in car bomb attacks against civilians and military personnel.
Later Monday, a security team assigned to an Iraqi general turned back an attempt attack in central Baghdad, killing four insurgents and seizing two rocket-propelled grenades, two machine guns and eight hand grenades.
“There are more Iraqis in security positions than there are Americans guarding Iraq,” said Lt. Col. Clifford Kent, a Task Force Baghdad spokesperson.
“This improves the quality and accuracy of our intelligence and that’s why we’re catching these terrorists and disrupting their plans,” he said.
