Toddler Dies After Choking At Central Texas Daycare Save Email Print

A | A | A

(February 26, 2008)--Following the choking death of a two-year-old Monday, authorities are investigating a Hutto daycare.

Hutto’s police chief says that when emergency crews arrived at A Mother's Choice Day Care, Semaya Simon was conscious and breathing shallowly.

The girl was taken to a hospital, where she died.

The chief said that while it's unknown what she choked on, authorities believe it was food.

An autopsy has been ordered.

A spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services tells the Austin American-Statesman that the department's childcare licensing department is investigating the death.

2 the mother of 4 & me ~ I'm a family member of this precious little girl & DO NOT appreciate ur comments. You can't even begin 2 imagine the hurt & pain that our family has gone thru, especially her parents. I can't believe that ya'll have the nerve & adacity 2 pass judgement on someone else. But you know what, even though ur comments r rude, immature, hateful &, let's not forget, HURTFUL, we have GOD on our side & He is in control. Do me a favor, want u? Find a Bible & read Luke 6:27-36. Basically what it says is 4 us 2 love our enemies & do good 2 those who hate u & curse u, & boy can that b hard 2 do. Especially when it comes 2 people like u, people who r just hateful & hurtful, 2 people they don't even know. But like I said earlier, God is in control & he will deal with ya'll in his own way, so look out. But I do pray 2 God that ya'll never have 2 experience the hurt & pain her parents has been through. 2 others ~ Thanks 4 ur comments & prayers 4 her parents & family. God Bless

WHAT IF IT HAPPENED TO YOU THEN HOW WOULD YOU FEEL ABOUT THE COMMENT YOU MADE STATED BY SOMEONE ELSE!! THINGS CAN HAPPEN SO FAST AND LIFE IS PRECIOUS!!!! HERE TODAY AND COULD BE GONE TOMMORROW!!!YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THE PAIN MY FAMILY HAS GONE THROUGH !!! BUT I PRAY TO GOD THAT WHEN YOU NEED SOMEONE IN YOUR TIME OF SORROW I HOPE YOU GO BACK AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU SAID!!!!!! YOU ALL NEED JESUS !!!

To "ME from Temple" ... if you don't already have children, DON'T make any! Your "stupid" gene might pass to some poor child. To "Mother of 4" ... If you do a have a night job, you can't be taking "great" care of your children during the day since you don't even know what city you live in. My guess is that the gov. is taking care of you. "In other words, us taxpayers are paying for your food stamp card". Stupid people post stupid things even when it's a tragic event that's happened. HOW SAD!

To me.... you should both be ashamed of yourself for judging others. My child is in daycare and I have been lucky enough to have had a wonderful experience. My daughter loves to go see her friends and play. Each family has different needs. It has nothing to do with whether or not I was ready to have kids. I am taking care of her by providing for her and loving her unconditionally. Just because you stay at home with your children, does NOT make you a better mother.

i was lucky enough never to have to work and put my child anywhere, sure i did without luxeries but it was worth it to me. but that was my choice, my child could have choked being with me, i mean i had to run to the bathroom, take a bath, turn my head for 2 minutes. The point is it was a tragedy for it to happen no matter where it happened. people have to work, what if she had been a single mother on welfare? would the same two idiots be making snap judgements on her then? i bet they would. people that work love their children and want better things for them that's why they work. Accidents happen no matter how careful someone is. I remember when i was 18 or so and i had no kids, i was waitressing and some child sitting right beside her parents choked almost to death. the cook ran out and helped and dislodged the food. see? accidents can happen anywhere at anytime. my prayers to the family and the daycare workers i am sure they feel bad too

" Me & Mother of 4" are immature idiots and probably shouldn't have children in their care. My heart goes out to the parents of this toddler and to the abused infant in Killeen.

Posted by: Cindy Location: Belton on Feb 27, 2008 at 12:01 PM
To Mother of 4 .... I read your comment here and on your comment about the baby in Killeen. Here you say your from Belton and on the other you say your from Temple. You don't know where you live?? ........ Your post ------- [ Posted by: SICKENED MOTHER OF 4 Location: TEMPLE on Feb 26, 2008 at 06:41 AM THATS WHY MY KIDS HAVE NEVER GONE TO DAY CARES AND NEVER WILL. SICKOS..... :(~ ] ----- These are 2 (horrible) things that has happened. I think you are a (Sick) mother of 4 that maybe the mother from KILLEEN that hit her 4 month old infant!

My heart goes out to these parents. I can't believe there are people who can think to start blaming the parents because they work. I have 2 children, as a family we can afford for me not to work, but I CHOOSE to work. I feel it is very important for someone to contribute to their family, whether that means staying home with the children or working to provide for those children. I CHOOSE to contribute by working, so we can live comfortable. Both of my children are loved and happy, and I give them my 100% attention before the time I wake them up and pick them up from daycare. You should never make a parent feel guilty about the choices they make, they know what is best for their family. I also have to say, you should be VERY involved in your daycare. I was very picky and asked a billion and 1 questions, have made surprise visits and checked with the state of her qualifications. But again, no parent should feel be made to guilty for working. My prayers are with the family

thank you L from Belton!! I was just about to say the same exact thing. That is about as sad as it gets!! I think everyone is losing sight of the fact that a Mom and Dad has lost the most precious gift you can receive. As a working mother who has to put food on the table I feel for the parents and pray they never read the comments left here. Thank you "L", for standing up and saying that!!

Posted by: L Location: belton on Feb 27, 2008 at 09:23 AM
im responding to "me" in temple, you're comment is just proposterous. how can you say people aren't ready to be parents if they have to put them in daycare? do you not live in the same world as everyone else....people have to work to live and if everyone thought the same way as you the world would end because people would stop having babies because they had to work. you really sounded stupid and i just wanted you to know that. the big picture is, a child died, and yes it was in daycare, but that isn't the point, it could've been in her living room or in the backseat of the car, accidents happen, and just because it was at a daycare doesn't mean the parents weren't ready to be parents. grow up! my prayers are with the family.

Posted by: Debbie Location: Killeen on Feb 27, 2008 at 08:28 AM
I just hope that the parents of this poor child never reads the comments from "Me" and Mother of 4. I would imagine they are feeling enough guilt and sorrow right now. Accidents happen anywhere. I think it is so sad that those judgemental comments were allowed. I am praying for this family as I know what it is like to lose a precious member of our family this very way, and it didn't happen at daycare

Posted by: Betty Location: Moody, Texas on Feb 27, 2008 at 07:33 AM
First I would be asking who was watching this child and next prayers to the family. All daycare workers SHOULD be trained in what to do in case of emergencies.

Posted by: me Location: temple on Feb 27, 2008 at 02:32 AM
if you can not take care of your own kids and have to let daycare take care of them you are not ready to have kids sorry. everybody wants to blame someone else its your kids take care of them your self.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Austin on Feb 26, 2008 at 09:11 PM
My question would be, was the daycare worker watching this child every minute and who first noticed and what did they do about it immediately? I cannot imagine losing a child this way and not being there to do everything to save her. To care for someone's child is a huge responsibility one should not take it lightly. That child is everything to the parents. Guard them with your life. That is how important they should be. God love the family and I am so sorry.

My prayers go out to the family. As for the comments from mother of 4 & M, not everyone is lucky enough to be able to stay home with their children. Being I work with troubled children of all ages, we see plenty of problems arise from parents that work at night & are too tired during the day to give their children the proper care. So there are down falls no matter what the situation. And yes, we see plenty that come from inside the home and not just daycares & babysitters. Tragic things can happen anywhere & at anytime. So instead of being judgmental & rude, let's just send prayers out to those affected by these tragic situations.

Posted by: MOTHER OF 3 Location: KILLEEN on Feb 26, 2008 at 06:28 PM
IT'S VERY SAD TO HERE ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY,BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT I USE TO WORK AT A DAYCARE AND THERE ARE A LOT THAT GOES ON AND THE WORKERS ARE TOLD TO LIE BY THE OWNER JUST TO COVER THEIR SELF AND BUSINESS AND THAT'S WHY I DON'T LIKE WORKING AT DAYCARES BECAUSE I HAVE KIDS AND I WOULD'T WANT MY KIDS BEING MISTREATED BY ANYONE THIS IS WHY I CHOOSE TO START MY OWN BUSINESS SO I CAN TAKE CARE OF MY OWN KIDS

Posted by: M Location: TEMPLE on Feb 26, 2008 at 04:09 PM
To MOTHER OF 4, a child can also choke in your home. Children do die at home also, it's not just somthing that can happen at a daycare.

Posted by: Marie Location: Waco on Feb 26, 2008 at 03:58 PM
My deepest sympathy for the family. This is a tragic accident that the parents and family will never truly heal from.

Posted by: mother of 4 Location: belton on Feb 26, 2008 at 03:17 PM
well for your info killeen at 1:40 pm Me and my husband do work i chose a night job so my kids WOULDNT have to be in daycare, and this is why. :)~

Mother of 4- nowadays it takes 2 incomes to run a household. you're lucky to have gotten to stay home but not all of us have that option.

Posted by: Mother of 4 Location: Belton on Feb 26, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Like i said on my comment for the baby that was molested at the killeen day care. MY KIDS WILL NEVER BE OR NEVER HAVE BEEN IN A DAYCARE.You cant trust noone with your kids now days...
