WACO (June 25, 2012)—A Waco man was injured in a shooting late Sunday night in north Waco and a man believed to be the assailant was detained less than an hour later in Valley Mills, but he was not arrested.
Police found the shooting victim shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday outside a residence in the 3100 block of N. 18th St.
Officers at the scene reported the man had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen but he was able to tell officers some detail about the man who shot him.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said the victim was shot several times but was in stable condition Monday at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
Officers broadcast a description of the vehicle that they believed fled the scene after the shooting and a short time later police in Valley Mills, along with deputies from Bosque County, located a vehicle matching the description, stopped it and detained the driver.
Valley Mills Police Chief David Jimenez said officers located the truck at the Misty Valley Trailer Park at about 11:15 p.m.
Waco police officers and a crime scene unit went to Valley Mills and impounded the truck for evaluation and investigation.
Jimenez said he expects Waco police detectives to be back in Valley Mills Monday morning to interview the man who was detained Sunday night.
Neither the victim nor the man detained in Valley Mills have been named.
