(February 28, 2008)--A newborn baby in India fell through the toilet of a moving train and onto the tracks moments after her mother prematurely gave birth, surviving nearly two hours before being found, relatives said on Thursday.
The mother, Bhuri Kalbi, was traveling with relatives on an overnight train when she went to the bathroom shortly before midnight on Tuesday and unexpectedly gave birth to a baby girl, said Arjun Kumar, her brother-in-law.
She fell unconscious soon after.
After discovering her, relatives pulled the emergency stop chain to halt the train.
They then reported the incident to the railway authorities who arranged an ambulance to take the baby to Ahmadabad.
Doctors at Rajasthan Hospital in Ahmadabad, where the baby was brought in after the rescue, said they resuscitated the child and she was doing fine.
