HIGHLAND PARK (July 12, 2012)--Police in the wealthy Dallas suburb of Highland Park were trying to determine Thursday why a man stabbed his wife and then used the knife to take his own life.
Highland Park police say toxicology results are pending on John Rodman Steele, 50, who was pronounced dead at a hospital after the bizarre attack in the $2 million home he shared with his wife and two children.
His wife, Dina Steele, 48, was wounded early Wednesday while trying to protect herself.
She called 911 to report the attack, telling officers she awakened to find her husband stabbing her.
Police say the couple's 16-year-old son stepped in to try to help his mother.
The teenager and his 12-year-old sister weren't injured.
They both also called 911 to summon help.
Dina Steele was taken to Baylor University Medical Center.
Her wounds were not life threatening, police said.
A hospital spokeswoman said Thursday there was no listing for a patient by that name.
