(March 6, 2008)—Round Rock police were investigating Thursday after an infant died of unknown causes at a home where a resident provided daycare services for several children.

Guillermina Villanueva, 43, of 801 Westminster Pl. in Round Rock told police the infant was asleep in a crib Wednesday afternoon, after feeding.

She told officers that when she went to check on the baby’s diaper around 4:30 p.m. she discovered he wasn’t breathing and called 911.

The 2-month-old boy was taken to Round Rock Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy was ordered.

Police said Thursday they found “no obvious or apparent indications of willful neglect or dangerous conditions in the home.”

The state Department of Protective and Regulatory Services is also investigating.

I'm a middle class retired mother of 4, about to start caring for children (max 6 in LA)from 6wks-9mos. only, in my home & this is part of the reason. Not saying that there was foul play; no. It just feels like I'm needed out there. I love babies to the depths of my heart. My first order of business will be to put camara's in their sleeping qtrs. with motion detectors and high sensitivity audio. It will allow me to see all or each baby. I love the tiny ones and this story has given me the motivation to move forward. It's the push I needed. I know a child can still die naturally but this will cut that percentage down to almost zero. Plus, I'll have a tape to give to the police to show the parents how everything went that day, ahile they slept. I won't need a lot oc coverage in te active playroom. Parents can also see from their jobs how their baby is doing. What do you all think?

Charlie, do you have kids. How do you take care of them. I was working when i had my son and i had to leave him in daycare at two months old. My husband and i are divorced so what am i supposed to do besides leave him at daycare so i can work. if i didnt we would both be on the street. WHICH DO YOU THINK IS WORSE???!!!!

My husband an I worked different shifts, so that we could raise our own kids, but in today's economy, parents sometimes have to work more than one job just to meet the basic necessitites of the household. How about you, Charlie? You on welfare? Am I paying your bills while the government eats away at my paycheck? You must not have to work, huh? You're so quick to blame working parents. Get a life, you jerk.

2 of my DIL's have to work. this is sad but with today's prices on everything sometimes both parents have to work there is no shame in that. GOD love all the people involved. stop judging before the whole story is in. i don't think there is anyone to blame in this. death does happen.

Many of us work and some of us have to pay for daycare death is all over us. Think about the family that just lost there baby.

In case you all are living in a fantasy world...TWO peole have to work in a household when kids are involved to SUPPORT THE KIDS, hello I work full time and my boyfriend does too and we have two children- for everyone's information we have no cable, or hd whatever, and we rarely eat anything that is not cooked at home and we barely survive. A child is dead in this case no matter who was taking care of him-rest in peace and for you people who think everyone lives out of their means think again because my family is a shining example.

To "me" in temple. There is nothing wrong with wanting the best for your family. My family doesnt have fancy cars or tv's but i do need to work so that i can give them a decent home and clothes that arent ragged and worn. My daughter is happy, healthy and goes to daycare where she plays with her friends and loves it. i am sure your kids are happy too. Each family has to decide for itself what is best. Stop judging those who made a different choice than yours. Yours is not necessarily the best choice for everyone.

Sounds like it could be a SIDS case. That could happen at home or at daycare. For those of you who think that you could better protect your kids if they were at home, accidents can and do happen whether they are at daycare or at home. it doesnt make you better parents if you are able to keep your kids at home.

To anyone that thinks leaving a child in daycare is "not raising your own child", or "the wrong to do" : Get off your pedestal and take a look at the world. There are fathers and mothers out there that don't want to raise their children or support their children. I got married and had a child, and did not need to work. Then my husband left me, disappeared. I ended up having to work to support myself and my daughter. BECAUSE I LOVE MY DAUGHTER. Most daycares are good, and safe to leave a child at.In this situation, they don't know what happened to that baby. It could have been something that might have happened at the child's home. Don't ever look down on a parent putting a child in daycare. At least they are working to support that child, showing they love them and want what is best for the child. You don't love your children anymore than I do because you CHOOSE not to work.

"But, most of the time it's the family wants HDcable, big screen TV, cell phones, a Lexus and too much McDonalds." it must be nice to be firmly planted in everyone else's lives! my wife and i both HAD to work when our kids were young! if not, we probably would have lost our very average house! her pay put food on our table and kept our kids clothed! the saying "ignorance is bliss" is definitely true as a few of you are proof of that! walk a mile folks walk a mile!!!!

My heart goes out to the parents of the little boy. As if the parents aren't hurting enough people are coming on here talking about "legal" or not and looking down on them because they had to work. I don't see anything wrong with leaving your kids with a babysitter or a daycare. I had to leave my baby when she was 2 weeks because I had to support her. Some of us are not lucky enough to make it only on 1 income.

Posted by: me Location: temple on Mar 7, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Charlie YOUR RIGHT. PEOPLE WANT A $3000.00 TV OR A NEW CAR. I GOT TO MANY BILLS I HAVE TO WORK. SELL THE TV GIVE THE CAR BACK AND THEN YOU DONT HAVE TO WORK AND YOU CAN STAY HOME WITH YOUR KIDS.

Posted by: me Location: temple on Mar 7, 2008 at 11:45 AM
like i said two weeks ago you got to be crazy to leave your kids in daycare. these people can not take care of your kids like you can.

I would like to send my deepest sympathy to the parents.I could not imagine loosing one of my children. As for the comment about the baby left for someone else to raise, people have to work to feed, cloth, and provide shelter for the baby.I don't know any parent that works for fun or enjoys leaving their children in someone elses care but people have to make a living. How insensitive can someone be!And for the comment about being legal-was that really neccessary? I don't think there was foul play I think it was a case of SIDS.

What are you talking about HDTV's, Cell Phone, Lexus' Legals' & McDonalds. Do you know the family? My heart goes out to the family and the caregiver. I am very sorry for your loss.

I agree that the lady did not have nothing to do with this. I would never leave my child in a daycare especially at that age...and to the person that said if she wonders if she illigal...Statments like that..keep them to ur self!..

I cannot imagine loosing my child nor could i imagine having one die in my care. It doesnt sound like foul play and it doesnt matter what color they are or where their from my prayers are with them all.

Posted by: Charlie Location: Copperas Cove on Mar 7, 2008 at 09:01 AM
I don't think it was anything other than Sudden Death Syndrome. However, what a shame that at 2 months old this baby was left for someone else to raise. God gave that child to its parents to raise not someone else. Yeah, I know there can be extenuating circumstances. But, most of the time it's the family wants HDcable, big screen TV, cell phones, a Lexus and too much McDonalds.

This tragedy has nothing to do with if the woman was legal or not. Has anyone thats "LEGAL" not ever had a child or an infant accidentaly die on them before. What a prejudice comment!!Then to get bets on it WOW!!! It is people like you that tarnish our great nation.

Posted by: Texas Location: Temple on Mar 7, 2008 at 06:37 AM
