Ron Paul Says He Won’t Back McCain Save Email Print

A | A | A

(March 10, 2008)—Texas Congressman Ron Paul isn’t quite ready to drop out of the GOP White House sweepstakes, but he told CNN that when he does pull out, he won’t support the presumed nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain.

"I'm not likely to support John McCain unless he changes his views,” Paul said.

“I mean he doesn't represent anything I've talked about for 30 years; nonintervention, foreign policy, personal liberties, civil liberties, free markets. No McCain Feingold. No child left behind. I mean, he doesn't stand for any of those things.”

A spokesman has said that Paul’s campaign can still influence debate and build an organization that brings the GOP "back to its roots."

First off Ron Paul is still in the race and after more of McCains flaws come to light people will not be able to back him because he is unelectable.Secondly; How could a true conservative like Ron Paul back insane McCain? He's proven time & time again that this man cannot stand office because he will represent his own intentions (look back at when he said in regards to the war 'I don't agree with 70% of the American people') Ron Paul will represent Americans and will not put his needs before the needs of the country. He is the only candidate that has firmly stood for what America has been screaming for the past 8 years, CHANGE. Yet now, when it comes time to actually change the GOP wants to but Bush incarnate (McCain) in position to lead the country?! Those that support Ron Paul need to sand together, and continue to get as many people as possible to vote for the Senator so that this country will survive.

I don't see how any true conservative could ever back that clown McCain. Ron Paul is the ONLY choice.

Ron Paul is the only one left with any sense. If everyone will read his stance on the issues, I think all will agree. He is our last hope. Four years from now may be too late for America.

I am thankful that someone ran who does not endorse McCain. Thank you for this article it inspires me to support Ron Paul more aggresively. I am a war VETERAN and did not realize that so few people were concerned about the DOMESTIC ENEMIES of the CONSTITUTION. Thank goodness Ron Paul was reelected to congress so that even if he doesn't become president he can still help to defend LIBERTY and the CONSTITUTION.

Petty and prissy!

This story is wrong and misleading. That is not what Ron Paul said, in English, so I can't understand how you could have misunderstood. He said he will NOT pull out of the race AND he couldn't endorse McCain unless he changed nearly every position he holds. We plan to take as many Ron Paul delegates to the convention as possible. Every time McCain opens his mouth, more delegates switch to Ron Paul. The momentum is growing. Not that he will carry enough to win the nomination but he will win enough to encourage his supporters to continue the fight forever. The reign of the Neo-cons is over. It is just a matter of time.

We can only HOPE for a miracle. Ron Paul is the only REAL repubican running! The republican party has been hijacked by neocons who advocate war and big government. The neocon's are confused to where/what their platform is..it's a vamp and there is not a plan to revamp the changes that MUST go along with that change..! HA, clear as mud? Sorry..so are the Neocons!

It will be incredibly interesting at the convention! I think the MSM will have a new story they will HAVE to cover and not blackout. Ron Paul will have an overwhelming number of delegates. Slow and steady wins the race.

We have two socialists on the Democratic side and one left wing Republican. It's time to take a stand against the corrupt Washington DC machine. As a Republican there is NO WAY that I could in good faith give John McCain my vote, and I'm definitely not voting for Socialism. I do not trust John McCain as far as I can throw him. I will vote for Ron Paul as a candidate or write in if I have to. We need our country back!

Ron Paul and John McCain are the only ones left. He soundly beat your national front runner, giuliani, and just watch what happens when all the delegates finally vote. You'll be sorry you were against the message of liberty.

We need Dr Paul to stay in the reace. He is the only true conservative republican we have. McCain is scarey and I fear the state of the world if he gets elected, especially for my kids and grandkids. War will be indefinite. Ron Paul needs to stay in the race to keep things HONEST! HIs integrity and crediblity are second to NONE. PLEASE PEOPLE research Ron Paul. You will love what you see!!!!! PLEASE!

More spin and news fabrication. I'm taking names and numbers of all the MSM spinmeisters that don't get it right, which is just about everyone. This should make it abundantly clear to everyone about how tainted and biased the news has become. It's sickening.

Ron Paul has not and will not bow out of the presidential race. He clearly stated that he will remain in the race in order to secure as many delegates as he can. In fact, in many parts of Texas like my district, only Ron Paul supporters even bothered to show up at the precinct convention to become delegates so now, Dr. Paul has a majority of the delegates in Texas. Once we get the majority of delegates in 5 other states, we can unbind all of McCain's bound delegates and nominate Dr. Paul regardless of what the vote count looks like up to now. This thing is FAR from over.

Dr. Paul never said "when he drops out." Watch the video - this is wishfull thinking. Why should he drop out when he is winning the majority of delegates in Texas? Do some journalistic research and find out why the leadership of the GOP met yesterday in Austin - I'll give you a hint: Ron Paul is going to win the Texas delegate race.
