WACO (August 14, 2012)—Waco firefighters were at the scene early Tuesday of a house fire that consumed a home in south Waco.

Units arrived at about 5:30 a.m. at the scene in the 1400 block of Gurley Avenue and reported the house was engulfed in flames.

Neighbors told News 10 the house had been vacant for about a year.

The 1400 block of Gurley was closed while firefighters mopped up the scene and a fire marshal began his investigation into the cause of the blaze.

Waco Fire Department Assistant Chief Patrick Kerwin said the house was a total loss.

Firefighters were able to prevent damage to neighboring homes.
