WACO (August 16, 2012)—A Waco man was being held in the McLennan County Jail Thursday after police arrested him for kidnapping his cousin at gunpoint.
Victor Lamont Jennings, 20, was being held Thursday morning awaiting arraignment and bond.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said a police shift report indicates sometime after 6 a.m. Wednesday a man called police from a store at 2412 W. Waco Drive and reported he had been kidnapped at gunpoint.
The victim told officers when they arrived that his cousin had gotten into the victim’s car, held a gun at his head and told him to drive.
At some point the victim convinced the kidnapper that he needed to stop at a store.
When the victim stopped at the store on Waco Drive and went inside, he used his cell phone to call police.
When officers arrived they found the suspect still in the car and found a handgun on the floorboard between his feet.
The gunman was arrested and charged with kidnapping, unlawfully carrying a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jennings was the victim in a June shooting where a man drove in front of the McLennan County Courthouse on Washington Avenue and fell into the street.
Jennings, who was shot in the arm somewhere in East Waco, refused to cooperate in that investigation and a suspect has never been arrested.
