The Spring Season of Mart and the Sunbranch Nursing Center of Groesbeck are among 13 nursing homes that will be operated by court-appointed trustees under an order issued Wednesday by a district court judge in Travis County, the Texas Attorney General’s Office said.
The Texas Department of Aging and Disability asked the Attorney General’s Office to seek appointment of the trustees to assume operations of the homes, which are controlled by corporations under the parent company Foremost Care, Inc.
A federal bankruptcy trustee determined last month that the homes lack funds to pay employees or vendors.
The order names three trustees to manage the homes and authorizes the use of money from an emergency trust fund to pay current operating expenses and patient care.

"These nursing homes face a financial crisis that must be remedied for the good of the seniors who live in these facilities," Attorney General Greg Abbott said.
"Today's action will make sure that the best possible quality of care is maintained until a long-term solution is found,” he said.
The trustees are authorized to take administrative control of the homes and will be responsible for managing and paying staff and vendors, maintaining records and contracting for Medicaid services.
They were granted $1 million from the Texas Emergency Nursing and Convalescent Trust Fund to carry out the order.
A hearing on establishing a temporary injunction is scheduled for July 14.
