TEMPLE (August 31, 2012)—A Temple man was arrested early Friday morning after a local convenience store was robbed.

Temple police Sgt. Brad Hunt said Joseph Lee Johnson, 37, was arrested at his residence in the 800 block of South 9th Street after officers identified him as a suspect.

Hunt said officers were sent at about 12:35 a.m. Friday to a 7-11 store at 1216 West Avenue H where they learned two individuals were robbed as the left the store and were walking through the parking lot.

The two victims reported that as they walked away from the store, a man they did not know ran up to them and assaulted them, knocking them both to the ground.

The assailant forcibly took money from one of the victim's pockets before fleeing on foot to the east.

The victims reported they never saw a weapon but both received medical attention at the scene for minor injuries.

Officers interviewed the victims and were able to identify Johnson as a suspect.

When officers searched Johnson residence they were able to recover evidence there that led them to make an arrest, Hunt said.

Johnson was arrested there without incident, and taken to Bell County Jail where he was charged with robbery.

The case is set for review by the Bell County District Attorney's Office, and bond will be set thereafter.
