Duplex Destroyed By Thursday Afternoon Fire

HEWITT (September 6, 2012)—A duplex just west of Interstate 35 was damaged by a Thursday afternoon fire but the residents escaped injury.

Firefighters were sent at about 4:45 p.m. to a duplex at 711 El Dorado, on the city’s east side, where first arriving units found smoke coming from one side of a single-story brick duplex.

Deputy Hewitt Fire Chief Lance Bracco said units at the scene quickly asked for additional manpower from reserves and the Woodway Public Safety Department.

One person was at home at the time of the blaze and was able to escape before firefighters arrived.

The other side of the residence was not occupied.

Firefighters said the fire started at the rear of the structure.

At one point the roof caved in and firefighters estimated the structure was a total loss.
