TEMPLE (September 7, 2012)—Northbound lanes in Interstate 35 in Temple have re-opened but southbound traffic still was being diverted Friday morning after a truck tractor towing a mobile home exploded and burned.
Department of Public Safety trooper Harpin Meyers said the truck was on the southbound side of the highway when something aboard exploded and the truck caught fire.
Lanes in both directions were blocked for more than two hours but Temple police said northbound traffic was flowing normally by 10:15 a.m.
Meyers said the driver was able to jump from the burning rig and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Meyers said the Interstate at mile marker 300 remained blocked due to the fire and heavy smoke, which it is producing.
Temple police Sgt. Brad Hunt said traffic is being re-routed from the Interstate onto access roads at the 299 exit southbound, which is the exit for Loop 363.
Motorists should avoid this area if possible.
