(March 22, 2008)- In addition to a new online program for degrees in homeland security management, Central Texas College in Killeen will be adding an additional education program, and beefing up resources for its existing nursing program.
This is accompanied by 20 million dollars worth of new construction planned because of continuing growth.
Already in construction as of six weeks ago is a new water system at the school's main campus in Killeen.
One of the school's board members says this expansion including a new water tower, and all new piping was much needed due to inadequate water flow of the school's current system, and that the new system would provide for continued campus growth in the future.
Still on the drawing board is a new nursing building and student union building at the school's main campus in Killeen, and a new education center for soldiers on Fort Hood.
The decision is firm to build, and Towers says the school is currently in the step of getting architectural plans approved for the new buildings, but there is no official timeline being released yet on groundbreaking for construction.
The director of the school's future homeland security program has said that the school is stepping up to meet the rising demand in the state of Texas for more trained professionals.
Board member Jimmy Towers says the need for more teachers and nurses in Texas is also apparent, and his school is trying to stay ahead of the curve by offering new degree plans for student in Central Texas to follow for getting those positions.
He attributes the school's ability to continue its growth, to the steady flow of revenue from its successful internet courses taken by more than 80 thousand students worldwide.
CTC has been very competitive in bidding on contracts for programs serving soldiers who want to study while on tours of duty overseas.
But Towers also says benefits of adding new avenues for degrees will be felt in Bell County.
The new teaching program will most likely come to fruition in fall of this year.
He says the next two projects to break ground will most likely be the new nursing building and education center on Fort Hood as soon as final plans are approved.
